About
Us
Organized in 1932, the Farmington
Garden Club joined the Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. in 1934.
We
are a medium sized club with 40+ members. The club's purpose is to assist in the
conservation of resources, encourage civic improvement and roadside development
and to study the fine art of flower arranging and gardening in all its aspects.
FGC is devoted to the development of all phases of gardening, the betterment and
beautification of the community and the protection and preservation of our natural
resources.
We
meet at the Spicer House in Heritage Park West off of Farmington Road the first
Monday of each month, except January and August, in July a club picnic is held.
Each meeting begins with a business report and includes a 45 minutes to 1-hour
program on garden related topics, instruction on flower arranging, or environmental
subjects.
For the past 21 years we have held a “Good Neighbor Garden Contest” with gift certificates awarded from local nurseries. 2009 Good Neighbor Garden Contest was a huge success. We had more absolutely beautiful gardens than ever before.
A fundraiser “Holiday Tables” held at the Visitors Center in Heritage Park benefits local schools environmental projects. In addition we maintain the herb garden at the Warner Mansion on Grand River in Downtown Farmington. At holiday time our members create flower and fresh greens arrangements
for a local nursing home.
Our
members have fun learning together, sharing ideas and experiences, and building
friendships that last a lifetime. Their lives are richer for their membership
in such a caring worthy organization.
We
welcome guests to our meetings and to our speaker's program.
