Farmington Garden Club
Good Neighbor Garden Contest Winners 2009

1st PLACE WINNER
was Laura Braun on Biddestone. Designed and planted by the owners, their beautiful gardens contain a variety of plants and landscapes that give the home a very natural feel. Colors, textures and artistic composition all work nicely together.

2nd PLACE WINNERS
Barbara Duncan on Lily Court has blended boulders, perennials, annuals and garden ornaments into lovely tiered gardens that are a feast for the eyes.
Karen Blazaitis on Rutledge Crossing landscaped her front yard with a wide variety of neatly pruned shrubs and decorative smaller trees. The backyard hill garden and smaller gardens are filled with colorful perennials and annuals.
Larry Kilner on Cortland has created gardens that provide a sense of comfort, privacy and beauty. Trees and shrubbery provide a living fence, joined with a white picket fence and arbor that are very picturesque. Numerous colorful perennials and annuals offer extra sparkle.

3rd PLACE WINNERS
Joseph and Sandi Soens on Shadow Glen has visitors pass through an antique gate and fence before noticing a very nicely landscaped property of trees and shrubs that gives a very intimate feel. From their deck you see colorful perennials and annuals everywhere, dotted with beautiful wood and iron sculptures. A gazebo offers afternoon shade.
John and Maria Orlando on Baywood have created a highly stimulating landscape filled with colorful plants of all shapes and sizes. They have woven in a variety of interesting wrought iron structures and other decorative pieces that complement beautifully.
SPECIAL AWARDS
A Natural Garden Award went to David Sharp on Beauford. His ½ acre lot is designated as an Urban Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. It contains a variety of native trees, shrubs and plants, including many herbs. Including a small water feature for fish and frogs, this habitat offers food, shelter, nesting places, and protection from predators.
SENIOR AWARD
Jeanette Malesky on Lilac is a very energetic senior who plants and maintains several flower and vegetable gardens around her home. She is proud of her Asian Lilies and provides them to friends. Among the many pretty garden decorations is a little puppy in the vegetable garden that barks when people get too close.
