For the February meeting we all crowded into the Spicer House fireplace room (our usual meeting room was being painted) for Jean Moran's very interesting slide show on the history of flower designs.
In March Kathlyn Rosenthal, an expert in perennials, native wildflowers and ornamental grasses will tell how growing native plants will save us time and money while helping the environment.

The Board voted to have Holiday Tables every other year alternating with the Garden Walk.  That means a lot less work for us, so we can concentrate on making our Garden Walk extra special this year.

The Board also voted to pay for our meeting refreshments out of the treasury to a limit of $30.00 (but if the committee spends less, that would be fine).

The Livonia Flower Show School will be held May 8, 9, 10, 2008, at the Radisson Detroit-Livonia, 17123 N. Laurel Park Dr.  These classes are very informative and taught by experts in design and horticulture.  Our Board voted to pay for 2 members to attend the school; so if you are interested, please contact me at 248-626-6322.  I will have a brochure at the March meeting.

The District I Spring Meeting, "Simply Buzzing Into Spring," will be at Club Venetian in Madison Heights on Tuesday, April 15.  The morning speaker will be Brenda Dziedzic, President of the SE Michigan Butterfly Assoc.  Her topic will be, appropriately, "Butterfly Gardening in SE Michigan."  The afternoon program will be a demonstration of Japanese flower arranging by Toshi Shimoura, professor in the Ikenobo School of Ikebana.  The cost is $22 for the lunch of soup, Michigan cherry chicken salad, fresh fruit, and dessert.  Reservations must be in by March 31, and we will have a sign-up sheet at our March meeting.

The Wildflower Assoc. of Michigan will hold its 21st annual conference March 2 & 3 at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.  Please call me if you would like further info.

Taylor Garden Club's Victorian Tea will be held Sunday, April 13 at the Ford Senior Center. Call 734-287-6851 for information.  Their club supports five Jr. Garden Clubs in Taylor and awards a $1,000 scholarship annually to a college student.

Farmington Garden Club 2008 Garden Walk

Our 2008 Garden Walk is coming up.  I have set the date for August 2.  It should be a slow time, not as many weddings, graduation parties or showers.   The first meeting for this event will be held March 17, 10 a.m. at the Spicer House.  I would like anyone interested in helping put this together to attend this meeting.  It is an important one.   Note the date in your book because we will need all of our members to work it, hostessing, hospitality, ticket sales, etc.  These are always fun to put on and I am looking forward to doing it again this year with great results.  See you at the meeting.  Betti Pool

ARTISTIC DESIGN

“Spring is Busting Out All Over” including branches in design.  All members are asked to bring at least one flower arrangement to a meeting during the year.  If you have not as yet signed up to bring a design, just bring one for the March meeting.  You are always welcomed to bring a second design.
