Thanks to all of
you for electing me president and to all who have volunteered to serve as
officers and committee chairs. My theme will be "Live With Beauty" (as suggested by Martha Mullkoff). I
look forward to working with all of you and to enjoying the exciting programs
that Chris Britts and Jan Dolan have scheduled. In September we are
fortunate to welcome the always enthusiastic and
knowledgeable Janet Macunovich. Janet is co-founder of the Practical
Gardening Institute, a well-known author and columnist, and one of

wonderful weather, beautiful gardens, and excellent preparation by Betti
Pool and her committee, attendance at our biennial garden walk was
disappointing again. Therefore, Betti, who has graciously
volunteered to chair the next walk, will be moving the date to August when
there is less competition from weddings, graduations, and other walks.
We were all saddened to learn of the death of Betti Pool's mother
on July 8.
I was sorry to miss the July "Picnic on the Porch" but
heard that it was a great success as always.

COOKIES
Preheat 350
1 c. (6 oz.) chocolate chips,
melted Beat whites and salt until foamy. Gradually
add sugar
2 egg
whites
and beat until stiff peaks form. Add vanilla & vinegar.
dash of
salt
Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle
1/2 t.
vanilla
on walnuts. Bake 8-10 minutes. Remove
immediately
1/2 t.
vinegar from
oven and allow to cool a few minutes before
removing them to cool completely
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
